WAR

It is war. Only this time the barbed wires separating the houses are invisible. Our enemy is powerful, approaching us at an unbelievable pace- relentless attacks, only this time we can’t see them.

There’s no blood. Instead, our hands are almost charred from excessive usage of sanitizers. There are no gas chambers yet an entire nation is gasping for air. We keep bartering love like antibiotics through memes and GIFs for more love- something to fill the void with, until our mind splits trying to distinguish today from the tomorrow.

We limit the news intake to limit our anxiety-focus on self-care, every psychiatrist told on TV, only to memorize it by line. I see my parents, frontline covid warriors, both of them going to work everyday staking it all like thousands of other only to see their country through this crisis. I go to give food to the neighboring slum kids; we look at each other- our sleep- deprived eyes drooping and then I come back home. I go to sleep tallying the death count in my mind hoping for a better tomorrow.

Sure, it is war.
