International Men’s Day

A mundane day in November with nothing special. Cause its Men’s Day, what the heck is that. Everyone thinks that the lacrimal gland only exist in women, acne or blemish or tan are just skin issues of girls, etc. etc.

19th November doesn’t have a ring to it compared to 8th March, however, Women’s Day is as important as Men’s Day for me.

Men only identify them through #NoShaveNovember…well I shave in November yet I am a man. Beard or no beard, a ‘man’ is a ‘man’. There are many people who identify as man, they are also man. Judging a man by the beard is wrong.

I choose He/Him

Exercise and man are terms taken in same breath. However, men have many body types which are never talked about. A man can be tall, short, plump, thin, skinny, fat, obese, overweight, muscular, well built, stout…and many more. But still, man should look like the sculpture of the Apollo at the Vatican Museum. I am tall and fat and flabulous!

Body shaming is no less severe problem in men than in women. Atleast the family of the women doesn’t shame her. Fitness is absolutely important but making gym your second home is exaggeration. Eating healthy, living right, sleeping tight are the main ingredients of a well sorted life. However, I do all the three yet can’t do away with the slab of flab in my belly which I inherited (at least that’s what I like to believe).

I am anti tobacco and anti alcohol. Its a notion that if a human is a man then he is going to smoke and drink and society is fine with it. I disagree. I am a teetotaler. My life hasn’t stopped, its going just as smooth as a smoker or drinker.

I am fat. I don’t have defined abs, I jave flabs. I don’t grow beard. I take regular care of my skin (not only just face). My lip balm expenses are higher than my cellular bill. I respect all genders. I don’t believe in gender binary. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink ( I hope tea doesn’t count).

My name is Shaswata Mukherjee and I am a man. I use He/Him/His pronouns.

No one can shame anyone unless you allow that person to..What you think about yourself is what you are,not the person who folks think.. People would think and judge you from their level of understanding.. Unfortunately we can’t rectify them..Keep this spirit going…
